Bonvue Street Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

5/3/2018

A beautiful spring day provided the perfect weather to celebrate renewal and growth in Observatory Hill.

On May 3, 2018, SSB Bank was invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony for Phase 1 of Observatory Hill's Bonvue Street Project. Thanks to the combined efforts of community partners and OHDC, we marked the completed renovations of 5 single-family homes in the historic Northside neighborhood of Observatory Hill.

Pittsburgh-area organizations (including SSB Bank) contributed funding, planning, and leadership to the Bonvue Street Project. The project started as a way to reclaim blighted properties from absentee landlords. Phase I of the project involved converting five homes into a proud reflection of economic growth in the region, while keeping the properties affordable to middle-income and lower-income families.

In attendance were representatives from the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Northside Leadership Conference, Northside Community Development Fund, Observatory Hill Incorporated, Rivers Casino, the Office of the Mayor, and other local leaders, as well as community members from across neighborhood.

The new homeowners of the properties were also in attendance. They were presented with gift baskets containing "bread so that this house may never know hunger, salt so that life may always have flavor, and wine so that joy and prosperity may reign forever."

SSB Bank is honored to have been involved in this meaningful project. We look forward to the kickoff of Phase II!
