We’re proud to share that SSB Bank has been recognized in Forbes’ “Best in Banking.” The article spotlights our growth, innovation, and commitment to the communities that we serve. As a community bank in Pittsburgh, we strive every day to bring local expertise, personalized service, and unique solutions to our customers.
We are grateful to our dedicated team and engaged community who made this recognition possible, and we want to share some of the important moments Forbes shared about our bank’s history.
From Slovak Savings Bank to a Modern Community Institution
When Dan Moon joined SSB in 2009, our bank was a modest operation centered on CDs and one-to-four family mortgages. Today, under his leadership as president and CEO, SSB has grown into a full-service community bank offering comprehensive personal and commercial banking solutions, backed by the technology customers expect from far larger competitors.
During his tenure, our assets have climbed from $70 million to approximately $450 million. This growth has allowed us to better serve our community with new products and even a new branch opening this year. A pivotal moment came in 2018 when SSB transitioned from private to public ownership. We navigated this change carefully to protect jobs and stability for employees and customers alike.
Diversifying to Put Customers First
Recently, we have avoided passing costs on to customers by building new revenue streams. We became a card-processing acquirer for merchants and then launched a full fintech banking division in January 2025.
The results have been significant. As Dan said in the Forbes article, "To date, we've processed millions of transactions and onboarded about 15 fintechs. We're now bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars a month." That diversified income, he noted, means the bank is able to "keep our staff, add more employees, and support our communities."
Growing Community
In 2026, we opened a new branch in Greenfield with more expansion on the horizon. Even through our growth, we have never lost sight of who the bank serves. Our deep community involvement spans partnerships with The Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group and the Northside Leadership Conference to the Jeans Day Fund, which lets employees direct a portion of their paychecks to local organizations chosen by staff vote.
Building for the Future
As we look to the future, SSB plans to deepen our fintech capabilities, expand digital offerings and security measures, and open additional branches. Through it all, we will hold true to the community-first values that earned us this recognition.
Thanks to Forbes for the feature and to our customers, employees, and community partners who made our growth possible.
