Shining a Light on Amyloidosis: Light the Night for Awareness This March

3/4/2026
March is Amyloidosis Awareness Month, and communities across the country are coming together to shine a light, literally, on a rare and often misunderstood disease. Through the Light the Night for Amyloidosis initiative, landmarks, buildings, and businesses are invited to illuminate red throughout the month of March to help increase visibility, understanding, and hope for those affected by amyloidosis.

Amyloidosis is a rare and often underdiagnosed disease caused by the buildup of abnormal proteins, called amyloid, in organs and tissues throughout the body. These protein deposits can interfere with normal organ function and may affect the heart, kidneys, liver, nervous system, or digestive tract. Because symptoms often resemble those of more common conditions, diagnosis can be delayed, sometimes for years.

Why Awareness Matters

Early diagnosis can make a meaningful difference for people living with amyloidosis. When identified sooner, patients may have access to treatments that help slow disease progression, protect organ function, and improve quality of life. Raising awareness also helps healthcare providers recognize potential warning signs earlier and supports continued research and advocacy.

For many families, amyloidosis is deeply personal.

Our community has been directly impacted by this disease. The man who lost his life to amyloidosis in May of 2025 was Samantha Gregory and Tyler Moon's father as well as Dan Moon's brother. His passing is a powerful reminder of how serious and often silent this disease can be, and why continued education and awareness are so important. By sharing this story, we hope to honor his life and help prevent other families from experiencing similar loss.

Light the Night for Amyloidosis

The Amyloidosis Foundation, along with local community supporters, leads the Light the Night for Amyloidosis campaign as a visual way to spark conversation and bring attention to this rare disease. By lighting buildings red, participating organizations show support for patients, caregivers, and families while helping spread awareness.

Throughout March, buildings illuminated in red serve as visible reminders that rare diseases deserve recognition, understanding, and action.

How Businesses and Community Partners Can Help

Community involvement plays an important role in awareness efforts. Businesses that participate in Light the Night for Amyloidosis show their support for health advocacy and the people affected by this disease. Organizations are welcome to follow their standard application process, request additional information, and receive public recognition for their participation.

Even small actions, such as sharing information, talking about symptoms, or supporting awareness initiatives, can help lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.

Standing Together for a Brighter Future

Amyloidosis awareness is about more than one month or one event. It’s about supporting those living with the disease, honoring those we’ve lost, and working toward a future where amyloidosis is recognized earlier and treated more effectively.

By lighting the night red this March, we can come together to raise awareness, show compassion, and help shine a light on amyloidosis.  Join SSB locations by participating along with your company and/or your household.
